It has been a year….. A Dedication to Bernice

The Absence of You

It has been a year…..
Your smile and laughter is still so infectious
It continues to bring everyone overwhelming joy and peace
Your wisdom and kindness will always be remembered
For years to come
Down through the generations of families and friends
Your stories
Your history
Will be passed and retold as if they were new
Every touch of your hand filled with tenderness and love
That will radiate and impact so many lives and hearts
Where it will remain forever
It has been a year…..

RIP Grandma … I miss you.

I want to disappear into the darkness
So I can’t see my reflection
My faults
All my imperfections
Let it engulf me so tightly
It takes away my pain, the scars
And releases the emptiness in my heart

I want to disappear into the darkness where I’ll be alone
Sadness gone
Where I’m finally home where I can be free
Where words can’t make me bleed like a fresh battle wound.
I’ve fought enough and my body is weakened now
No more I can endure

I want to disappear into the darkness
So I can’t see my reflection
My faults
All my imperfections
The illumination of them all has taken a toll on my mind body and soul.
Nothing seems to save me but the darkness

A Mother’s Love…

Happy Mother’s Day OLTL Readers!!

A Mother’s love

Flower of a Dogwood Tree

A Mother’s love is something

that no one can explain,

It is made of deep devotion

and of sacrifice and pain,

It is endless and unselfish

and enduring come what may

For nothing can destroy it

or take that love away . . .

It is patient and forgiving

when all others are forsaking,

And it never fails or falters

even though the heart is breaking . . .

It believes beyond believing

when the world around condemns,

And it glows with all the beauty

of the rarest, brightest gems . . .

It is far beyond defining,

it defies all explanation,

And it still remains a secret

like the mysteries of creation . . .

A many splendored miracle

man cannot understand

And another wondrous evidence

of God’s tender guiding hand.

May you all have a wonderful day!!

…And Then Came the Rain

The skies darken

To a shade of charcoal grey.

The clouds move across the sky like angry men

And the once perfect blueness fades away.

The storm melody begins.

A natural arrangement of harmonious tones

Are carried by the winds as they begin to blow

Through the limbs of trees causing their leaves to tremble.

Swaying them violently without care,

Again and again to its rhythm

The sound of rumbles draw near.

And are joined to the symphony of music.

It’s closing in.

Becoming more and more beautiful and melodic.

Bright lights flash across the sky.

But before the crescendo

Nature gave us one last rumble…and then came the rain.

Who Am I?

I stem from all that has been created.
I carry with me the legacy of life that has come before me.
I have been unearthed by the dryness of the land,
While the threatening heat of the sun tries to defeat me.
But my strength is limitless as I must maintain my beauty.
For you, I continue.

I continue to be the carrier of life,
The force of what moves you in ways which you struggle to understand my purpose.
It is my complexities that amaze you.

I am the source of what feeds your need for beauty, for life…
I nurture souls that have been depleted.
I comfort and protect you in ways you sometimes overlook.
I inspire your words that turn into prose, paintings and photos.

I am the mirrored reflection of your strength and tenacity.
I too, am life.
